Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has launched the second phase of the Livestock Fattening Programme under the Kano Agro-Pastoral Development Project to reduce poverty and encourage economic independence.

According to a statement by his spokesperson, Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, the programme focuses on empowering women in all 44 local government areas by providing livestock to promote entrepreneurship among vulnerable groups.

At the launch, Yusuf revealed that 7,158 goats would be distributed to 2,386 women, with each receiving three goats. Future phases will include the distribution of 1,342 cows and 1,822 rams to both women and youths.

The governor urged recipients to use the livestock responsibly and emphasised that the initiative is designed to create a sustainable economic framework, reduce poverty, and decrease reliance on government assistance.

“This initiative is not just about distributing livestock but about fostering a sustainable economic model that uplifts communities and reduces dependency on government aid,” the governor said.
