The Lagos State House of Assembly has reaffirmed its support for the newly elected Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, following the impeachment of Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa on January 13, 2025.

In a press release signed by Hon. Ogundipe Stephen Olukayode on behalf of the Assembly, the lawmakers emphasized that over two-thirds of the Assembly remain united behind Speaker Meranda and stand firmly by their decision to remove Obasa.

“As elected representatives of the people of Lagos, we owe them good governance and harmonious relationships with other arms of government,” the statement read.

The Assembly described Obasa’s opposition to his impeachment as “uncalled for and unparliamentary,” urging him to embrace peace and avoid actions that could disrupt stability in the state.

“All members were elected from their various constituencies across the state, and we all have the inalienable rights under statutory orders to remove principal officers, including the Speaker,” the statement continued.

The lawmakers warned against any attempts to escalate tensions, stressing their commitment to achieving peace in Lagos.
