Delta Okada Riders Decry N10,000 ID Card and Sticker Fee Amid Economic Hardship

Delta Okada Riders

Motorcycle riders, popularly known as Okada operators in Delta State, have raised concerns over the new N10,000 fee imposed on them for an identification card and sticker, which will expire on December 31, 2025. This is in addition to the existing daily ticket levy of N200.

Operators lament that the fee was previously N4,000 last year, but the sudden increase has left many struggling riders frustrated. However, fear of repercussions has kept many from speaking out.

Many Okada riders finance their motorcycles through hire purchase agreements or daily balance payments, making the additional financial burden even more difficult to bear. Amidst rising costs and economic challenges, they accuse the government of being insensitive to their struggles.

“This economy is already hard, and now they are increasing fees without considering how we survive,” a rider in Asaba lamented.

Operators are calling on the state government to review the charges and provide better support for those relying on motorcycle transportation for their livelihood.
