The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has advised the Osun State Government to suspend the planned Local Government elections, citing intelligence reports of potential vi*lence and security threats.
In a statement, the NPF warned that various groups, including political actors, were mobilizing to disrupt public peace. While the police and other security agencies are prepared to maintain order, they stressed that postponing the elections would help prevent unrest.
The police also noted legal concerns following a recent Court of Appeal judgment, which they say raises questions about the elections’ validity. The NPF urged stakeholders to act responsibly and prioritize public safety.
