Sexual Harassment Allegations Rock Senate: Akpabio Accused of Targeting Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan

Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, Akpabio

The Nigerian Senate has been thrown into fresh controversy as Senate President Godswill Akpabio faces allegations of sexual harassment and abuse of power against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. Multiple anonymous sources within the Senate claim that Akpabio has repeatedly made inappropriate sexual advances toward the Kogi senator, leading to a strained relationship between the two lawmakers.

According to insiders, Akpabio allegedly made suggestive comments about Senator Natasha’s appearance, with one source revealing: “See your waist. Your husband is enjoying ooo. You should come and see me one day.” The senator’s refusal to yield to his advances has reportedly resulted in systematic efforts to silence her voice in the chamber.

A fellow senator, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, disclosed, “We have all seen how Akpabio operates. He is known for his vindictive nature. If he doesn’t get what he wants, he makes sure you suffer for it.”

The feud between Akpabio and Senator Natasha took a public turn in 2024 when the Senate President dismissed her attempt to contribute to a discussion, stating, “Senator Natasha, you cannot speak without being asked or invited to speak in the Senate. This is not a nightclub.” Following backlash, Akpabio issued an apology for what was widely viewed as a misogynistic remark.

However, sources within the Senate claim that Akpabio has continued to undermine the Kogi senator. Reports indicate that she has been repeatedly denied the opportunity to speak on the floor of the Senate, with her latest attempt to present a crucial bill for the establishment of a Diaspora Bank being blocked once again. Her frustration reportedly led to a confrontation, resulting in her forceful eviction from the chamber on Akpabio’s orders.
