Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly have dismissed Mudashiru Obasa’s claim that he remains the Speaker, insisting that Mojisola Meranda remains their leader.

Obasa, who was impeached on January 13, returned to the Assembly complex today, February 27, with security operatives, coinciding with the recent withdrawal of security aides assigned to Speaker Meranda.

Speaking on behalf of the lawmakers, Stephen Ogundipe, representing Oshodi-Isolo Constituency 1, urged the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos to step in and resolve the ongoing leadership crisis.

“We were asked by our leaders to remain calm and take things easy, but we are surprised by what is happening today,” Ogundipe said.

“We won’t take the law into our hands, just as we have advised the staff not to. However, we represent different constituencies, and our mandates must be respected. Whatever needs to happen, the leadership should engage us instead of this charade we are witnessing.

“We have been law-abiding and have not acted against the state. But we also deserve respect and recognition as elected officials. I appeal to our party leadership—this situation cannot continue like this
