Frustrations Mounts as NYSC Allowance Fails to Reflect Promised Increase
Corps members across Nigeria have been left disappointed as the Federal Government credited their accounts with ₦33,000 for February, despite earlier assurances from the NYSC Director-General that they would begin receiving ₦77,000.
The NYSC DG had publicly stated that corps members would benefit from the new minimum wage adjustment, raising expectations of financial relief amid the rising cost of living. However, when the February allowance dropped, many corps members were shocked to see no change.
The development has sparked outrage across social media, with corps members expressing frustration over the unfulfilled promise. Many had already made financial plans based on the expected ₦77K, only to be met with the usual ₦33K.
Amid the economic challenges facing the country, the unchanged allowance has further intensified calls for the government to prioritize the welfare of corps members. With the cost of living steadily rising, many are demanding urgent clarification from the NYSC and the Federal Government regarding the delayed increment.
As of now, neither the NYSC management nor government officials have issued an official statement on the matter, leaving corps members uncertain about when—or if—their allowance will be increased.
