Pastor Adeboye Recounts Near-Death Experience During Evangelism in Osun State

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has revealed how he nearly lost his life seven years ago due to poor road conditions during an evangelism programme.

Speaking at the annual Special Holy Ghost Service, themed “Joy Unspeakable,” on Friday, Pastor Adeboye recalled how his health deteriorated so severely that, for the first time, he was forced to spend Christmas Day on a sickbed.

The revered cleric recounted that the incident happened in Ilesa, Osun State, where he collapsed and was too weak to travel by road. Given the urgency of his condition, a helicopter was chartered to airlift him to the RCCG camp on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. However, miscreants attempted to prevent the takeoff, clinging to the helicopter and even damaging one of its windows.

“Seven years ago, during this same programme, my body broke down completely due to the terrible road conditions. For the first time in my life, I spent Christmas Day in bed,” he said.

“The devil was certain he had finally got me. I collapsed in Ilesa, and to bring me back to the camp, we had to charter a helicopter. I was too weak to travel by road—if I had, I would not have made it,” he added.

Despite the ordeal, Pastor Adeboye expressed gratitude to God for sparing his life, stating that he had an assurance that if he could make it to the RCCG camp, he would recover. Seven years later, he remains in good health.

“I want you to thank God for sparing my life. Please, praise Him for me—give Him glory, honor, and adoration!” he urged the congregation.

The testimony has since sparked reactions from worshippers, many of whom have taken to social media to celebrate the cleric’s survival and acknowledge God’s faithfulness.
