The Ondo State Police Command has debunked media reports claiming that it confirmed attacks on four communities in the state resulting in the death of 20 farmers.

In a press release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Funmilayo Odunlami, the Command described the report as misleading and false, clarifying that the only confirmed incident occurred at Sunday Camp — a remote settlement along the Ondo-Edo boundary — on March 8, 2025.

“The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ala received information regarding an attack at Sunday Camp, but at no point did the Police confirm the killing of 20 farmers as falsely reported,” the statement read.

The Police noted that while it is aware of the incident, the figure being circulated is inaccurate and unverified. The Commissioner of Police, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, has since ordered intensified covert operations across the state to flush out criminal elements.

The Command also cautioned journalists and media outlets against spreading unverified information capable of causing unnecessary panic among the public.

“The Command urges journalists and media outlets to verify information from official sources before publication,” CSP Odunlami emphasized.
