The African Institutes of Waste Management and Environmental Studies (AIWES) has commended an innovative project in Kaduna that utilizes 25,000 plastic bottles to build a four-room toilet.
The registrar of AIWES, Dr. Ahmed Lateef Tayo who visited the site of the ongoing project, yesterday commended Mallam Alamin Lawal for his initiative.
According to Tayo, the initiative will not only help reduce the overwhelming amount of plastic waste in society but also plays a crucial role in promoting recycling and waste management practices.
He pointed out that in many developed nations, plastic bottles are repurposed for various sustainable uses to combat pollution and environmental damage.
He urged all African countries to adopt this type of construction, which is durable, environmentally friendly, and adaptable to diverse conditions.
“At the completion of the project, AIWES would recognize Mallam Alamin Lawal with the Eco-Management Warrior Award of the Year for his exceptional contributions to environmental preservation“.
He also commended Lawal for bringing the project to a local school and recommended that the Nigerian government award him a national honour in recognition of his efforts.
