The Kogi State Chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has debunked claims suggesting that former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has assumed the party’s leadership.

The party made this clarification through an official statement issued on March 19, 2025, stressing its unwavering commitment to the leadership of its National Chairman, Shehu Gabam.

Isaiah Davies Ijele, the Publicity Secretary of Kogi SDP, attributed the misleading reports to opposition forces attempting to destabilize the party’s growing influence.

According to Ijele, “The SDP remains united under the leadership of our esteemed National Chairman, Shehu Gabam, and we are committed to working together to achieve our shared goal of rescuing Nigeria in the 2027 elections.”

Although the party acknowledges El-Rufai as a valued member contributing positively to its objectives, Ijele emphasized that the former Kaduna State Governor does not hold the position of party leader.

He urged the public to dismiss the false reports, describing them as deliberate attempts by opposition elements worried about the SDP’s rising popularity.

Reiterating the party’s mission, Ijele noted that the SDP’s focus remains on its objective to “rescue Nigeria in the 2027 elections.”

This reaffirmation highlights the party’s determination to maintain a united front as it prepares for future political engagements.

The Kogi SDP also reiterated that its leadership structure remains unchanged, with Shehu Gabam continuing to serve as National Chairman.

The swift response from the party’s Kogi State chapter underscores its commitment to ensuring clarity and consistency in its leadership.

Observers believe the party’s firm stance on leadership matters aims to reinforce internal stability and counter any efforts to sow discord within its ranks.

As the 2027 elections draw closer, the SDP is determined to present a cohesive and resilient front under the leadership of Shehu Gabam.
