
Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has expressed heartfelt condolences over the passing of elder statesman and former governor of the state, Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, describing his death as the end of an era.
In a statement released by the Governor’s Office, Makinde praised Olunloyo’s invaluable contributions to the growth and development of Oyo State, stating that he was not only a brilliant mind but also a man of deep patriotism and rare intellect.
“My joy is that our government immortalised and honoured Pa Olunloyo in his lifetime, and he was present to witness it,” Makinde noted. “We named the Ibadan Airport Road and the Leisure Park on that axis after him in recognition of his service to the state.”
He added that Olunloyo’s legacy would remain etched in the annals of Oyo’s history, especially for his commitment to public service and excellence in governance.
Makinde urged the family and the people of Oyo State to take solace in the impactful life the late icon lived, assuring that the state would continue to celebrate his memory in dignified ways.
Dr. Olunloyo, widely respected as a mathematical genius and public intellectual, served as the governor of Oyo State in 1983 and remained a strong voice in national discourse until his passing.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in due course.
