A British podcaster has said that Nigerian music star, Burna Boy did not become a leading act in the industry until 2019 when he released ‘African Giant’ album.
He said that prior to that year, there was only Top 2 – Wizkid and Davido and the Last Last crooner does not have the same bragging rights as his colleagues.
The media personality argued that the Grammy winner was a good artiste but he did not have the type of catalogue that could match that of Machala and the Omo Baba Olowo.
He said he knew Burna Boy for a while, however, he was not really playing the singer’s music up until 2019, the year he got a big break after the Coachella fiasco.
According to him; “In my calendar there was only top 2 up until 2019, before that there was nothing like top 3. Burna Boy did not get in that top 3 mix up until 2019 when African Giant was released.
He was a decent artiste, a great artiste, don’t get me wrong, but in my book he was not in the top 3, there was no top 3 then.”
In response, his co-host argued that Burna Boy was going through some issues with his management and flight restrictions at the time which prevented him from focusing on his music like the others.
