Former Minister of Works and Housing Babatunde Fashola clarified his financial status, revealing that he receives a monthly pension of N577,000 from the Lagos State government as a former governor.
Addressing the public speculation about substantial post-office earnings, Fashola debunked rumours of receiving billions from the federal government during his eight years of service as a minister. He made these statements during an appearance on the Arise TV program, “Perspectives,” on Saturday.
Fashola emphasized, “The benefit I get is N577,000 monthly pension from Lagos State. That’s all I get. So, despite all the stories that we got several billions of money (after leaving office), I’ve repeatedly come out to deny that. I don’t know how long it lasts, but I only know that I get N577,000 per month consistently.”
When asked about additional benefits from the federal government, Fashola categorically stated, “no.”
Pressed on whether he could advise current public office holders, the former Lagos governor refrained from giving direct advice. Still, he encouraged them to “remain true and authentic” in their duties.
In a previous statement in September 2023, Fashola emphasized his commitment to public service, asserting that he did not require an official title to serve. He clarified that the president could appoint at least one minister from each state, and he expressed contentment with serving in President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
