The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has stated that Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 election, has not reached out to him to express his condolences over the recent explosion in Ibadan.
Makinde expressed his disappointment during a meeting with Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), on Monday.
Makinde, a member of the PDP, expressed his concern that Atiku, who was the PDP’s candidate in the last presidential election, had not made any contact with him since the incident occurred.
He said, “You came here to commiserate with us over the explosion. I am particularly grateful because the President has reached out to me, you also have reached out to me but my own party candidate (Atiku), not even a call or a text message.
“I am saying this openly because our leaders should know that they need to have time for politics and humanity too.”
The governor said investigation to fully unravel the mystery behind the incident is currently ongoing.
“Investigations are still going on, it was an issue of illegal miners storing explosive devices in an environment where they should not be kept,” he added.
