A Defining Moment for Delta North: Orji Kalu Supports Ned Nwoko’s Anioma State Agenda

Ned Nwoko Orji Kalu

The call for the creation of Anioma State has once again gained momentum with the notable endorsement of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, Senator Representing Abia-North Senatorial District, a Former Governor and respected Statesman. His support aligns seamlessly with the unwavering advocacy of Senator Prince Ned Munir Nwoko, who has consistently reassured his constituents that his colleagues in the National Assembly are favourably disposed to this noble cause.

The Igbo nation, an industrious and politically conscious people, extends far beyond the artificial boundaries of the South-East geopolitical zone. Their presence is woven into the fabric of Nigeria’s sociopolitical landscape, with thriving communities across the country. The demand for Anioma State is not merely an appeal for geographical restructuring but a necessary step toward correcting historical oversights and ensuring fair representation within the Nigerian federation.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has a unique opportunity to etch his name in history by initiating this long-overdue process. The creation of Anioma State would serve as a strategic bridge, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to national unity and inclusivity. Beyond its immediate political gains, this move would resonate deeply with the Igbo population, both at home and in the diaspora, demonstrating a genuine effort to address long-standing grievances.

The delineation of Anioma State, while an important step, may still not fully encapsulate the vast Igbo presence across Nigeria. However, it would mark the beginning of an expansionary approach to political inclusion—one that acknowledges the demographic strength of the Igbo people and leverages it to enhance Nigeria’s democratic architecture. Political power is fundamentally a game of numbers, and an expanded Igbo political space would naturally translate to greater influence at the national level.

For decades, the Igbo have been the only group among Nigeria’s three major linguistic blocs yet to be afforded equitable political consideration for the highest offices of the land. This marginalisation has fueled disenchantment and, in some quarters, led to the rise of separatist agitations. Addressing this imbalance is not just a matter of justice; it is a strategic necessity for national stability. By fostering political inclusivity and correcting historical injustices, the Nigerian state would be taking a significant step toward diminishing the calls for secession and reinforcing national cohesion.

At the forefront of this historic mission is Senator Ned Nwoko, who has made it clear that Anioma State creation is his First Constituency Project. Speaking to APC Delta North leaders, he reaffirmed that his decision to cross over was driven by the singular goal of actualizing Anioma State, alongside securing much-needed development and infrastructure from the center for his people. This strategic and courageous move is already yielding visible results, and it is imperative that his constituents recognize the weight of this sacrifice.

Political progress is never a solo effort; it requires the unwavering support of the people. Anioma sons and daughters must rise to the occasion, lending their voices, political engagement, and collective resolve to ensure that this vision becomes a reality. Senator Ned has taken the bold step—now, it is up to the people to stand firmly behind him and push this dream across the finish line.
