AIG Igweh Visits Scene of Tanker Explosion, Consoles Niger State Residents

Following the recent tanker explosion incident which has so far claimed 108 lives and left 46 critically injured and hospitalized, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 7 Abuja, *AIG Benneth Igweh, has visited scene on 21st January, 2025.

Igweh, led a delegation to assess the extent of damage and console with the residents of Diko Community in Niger State on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun.

The AIG opined that the tragic incident was a stark reminder of the need for vigilance and safety in the communities adding that, the tragedy underscored the critical importance of safety on the roads and the need for strict compliance with road traffic regulations.

While lecturing senior officers and other tactical operational commanders under Niger State Police command on topical security matters on the 22nd January, 2025, he emphasized the need for Area Commanders and DPOs to sensitize and enlighten the public on the danger of scooping fuel from fallen tankers, and to prioritize other measures that will prevent such occurrences in the future.

He called on DPOs to retrain the Police Constables that will be passing out soon on practical police duties and operations; which could be done in batches at the CTU Base, SPU Base, PMF or Area Command level.

He further re-emphasized the need for DPOs and Area commanders to treat the threat of One-chance activities as Kidnapping.
