A frontline governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, has withdrawn from the ongoing party primaries in Anambra State. The primaries, held at the Women Development Centre in Awka, are part of preparations for the upcoming 2025 governorship election.

Okonkwo’s withdrawal comes after two other aspirants, Chukwuma Umeoji and Paul Chukwuma, also stepped down from the race. In a statement dated April 5, Okonkwo said his decision followed a thorough reflection on the process, which he believes no longer aligns with his values. He also cited concerns over the safety of his supporters.

Despite pulling out, Okonkwo reaffirmed his commitment to public service and pledged to continue supporting the development of Anambra State and the broader goals of President Bola Tinubu’s administration. He expressed gratitude to his supporters and wished Anambra success for the sake of future generations.

The four remaining APC aspirants are Nicholas Ukachukwu, Johnbisco Onunkwo, Valentine Ozigbo, and Edozie Madu.
