The Anambra State Police Command has arrested six suspects at separate checkpoints following intensified stop-and-search operations across the state. The arrests, made on February 1st and 2nd, 2025, led to the recovery of firearms, ammunition, hard drugs, and other incriminating items.

According to the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the operations were part of the improved security measures initiated by Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam.

In the first incident, police operatives from Anaku Divisional Headquarters intercepted eight individuals riding on motorcycles at Anaku/Omor Junction on February 2nd. While five suspects fled, three—Okafor Chibike, Ekene Lucky Nwadigbu, and Godwin Osaz—were apprehended. A search revealed a locally made double-barrel gun, a locally made revolver pistol, a dagger, three Android phones, and four ATM cards. Initial investigations suggest the suspects are members of the Aye Confraternity, on their way to an initiation ceremony.

In a similar development at Eke Awgbu Junction on February 1st, police operatives stopped a tricycle carrying three men—Chidera Nwochia (20), Chizurumu Elvis (23), and Kosisochukwu Obiechina (21). A search uncovered a 7.62mm live round, a black axe, a gallon of suspected hard drugs, ritual materials, and clothing linked to cult groups. The suspects admitted to being members of the Black Axe Confraternity and were en route to their initiation ground.

The police recovered both the motorcycle and tricycle used by the suspects, and investigations are ongoing. All six suspects will be charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigations.
