Senate President Godswill Akpabio has extended an olive branch to Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, urging her to apologise to the Senate as a pathway to reconsidering her six-month suspension.
Speaking during Thursday’s plenary session, Akpabio stressed that the Senate is open to reconciliation but warned that the senator’s recent conduct could set a discouraging precedent for female political participation in Nigeria.
“We are not against reconciliation, but there must be decorum,” Akpabio stated. “Her approach, if unchecked, may discourage political leaders from appointing women to key positions in the future.”
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, was suspended over alleged misconduct during a Senate committee hearing. The suspension has drawn public attention and triggered debates on legislative discipline and gender representation in politics.
