Manchester United goalkeeper, André Onana, has been dropped from the squad for today’s Premier League match against Newcastle United, following a challenging week marked by a difficult outing in Europe.

The decision was made by manager Rúben Amorim, who reportedly advised the Cameroonian international to take a short mental break from football to recover and refocus. Onana has not travelled with the team and will not be on the bench for the clash at St James’ Park.

He is, however, expected to return to action for the second leg of the club’s Europa League tie on Thursday.

In Onana’s absence, Altay Bayındır will make his Premier League debut, stepping in as the starting goalkeeper. The Turkish international, who joined the club during the summer, now has the chance to showcase his quality in a crucial fixture.

Amorim has previously defended Onana despite recent criticism, stressing that mistakes are part of the game and reaffirming his belief in the goalkeeper’s abilities.

Bayındır’s appearance today presents a pivotal opportunity to impress both the fans and coaching staff as United continue to fight for a strong finish to the season.
