Popular Anambra-based spiritualist, Prophet Onyeze Jesus, has been arrested.
The self-styled ‘Father of All the Mens’ gained notoriety for his controversial ‘quick riches’ rituals, which involved taking followers to a river in Nkpor, making them strip, hold rams, and chant while throwing money into the water.
After vanishing from public view last year, Onyeze resurfaced with claims that he had been kidnapped, accusing his mother-in-law of orchestrating the abduction. He later sent his wife packing. However, rather than returning to his infamous river rituals, he built a ‘Pool of Bethesda’ at his residence, continuing his practices under a new guise.
His arrest marks the third high-profile crackdown on ‘quick riches’ spiritualists in Anambra, following the arrests of Akwa Ókùkó Tiwara Aki and Eke Hit. The state government has intensified efforts to regulate native doctors, citing concerns over their alleged connections to fraud and insecurity.
