The Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martins Amaewhule, has suspended its plenary sessions indefinitely.

The decision was announced during a session held on Friday, March 14, in Port Harcourt. Amaewhule informed lawmakers that the Assembly would not be holding further sittings until further notice.

This development comes amid rising political tensions in the state, particularly following an incident where Governor Siminalayi Fubara was unable to re-present the 2025 budget proposal as directed by the House.

The governor attempted to reintroduce the budget on Thursday but was reportedly denied access to the Assembly complex.

Following the incident, Governor Fubara sent a letter to the lawmakers, requesting to re-present the budget on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, or another suitable date within the month.

Details later.
