Award-winning Nigerian actress and filmmaker, Chioma Chukwuka, has opened up about the intense emotional and cultural challenges she faced while playing a lead role in the movie Seven Doors. Describing it as one of the most profound roles of her career, she said the character—a displaced Igbo woman navigating life in a Yoruba-dominated kingdom—required her to embody feelings of isolation and cultural shock.
Originally written in Yoruba, the script was translated to help her fully grasp the role, which she described as both demanding and rewarding. “I had to immerse myself in the character’s journey, internalizing her emotional reality as if it were my own,” she shared.
Chioma, who began her entertainment career with dreams of becoming a musician, also spoke about the importance of staying true to one’s craft while adapting to changing industry trends. She credited her longevity in Nollywood to consistency, personal values, and a conscious effort to stay out of scandals.
She highlighted her work outside film, including her role as a goodwill ambassador for USAID, where she advocates for maternal and child health. She also revealed that her online kitchen project, inspired by her late mother, and her masterclass for young actors are some of her proudest initiatives.
On wellness and self-care, she gave a lighthearted but meaningful tip: “I drink plenty of water and mind my business.”
Chioma also stressed the importance of identifying red flags in relationships early and encouraged those facing domestic violence to seek help before it escalates.
Looking ahead, she teased more content from her YouTube platform, The Chioma Chukwuka TV, and reaffirmed her desire to leave behind a legacy of excellence, mentorship, and authenticity.
