An Abia State High Court sitting in Obehie, Ukwa West Local Government Area, has stopped the enforcement of the suspension of former Senate President and Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees, Adolphus Wabara.

Presiding over the case, Justice L.T.C. Eruba, in an order dated February 25, 2025, restrained the Abia PDP leadership, led by Abraham Amah, from executing the suspension. The court order, made available on Saturday, ruled that Wabara’s position as PDP BoT Chairman must remain unaffected until the motion on notice is determined.

Wabara had approached the court under suit number HUK/8/2025, seeking to prevent Amah from enforcing the suspension. Granting his request, the court ruled:

“The defendant is restrained from enforcing the suspension of the claimant/applicant from the Peoples Democratic Party or in any way affecting his position as the Chairman, Board of Trustees of the PDP till the motion on notice is determined.”

The crisis began weeks ago when Amah, a former PDP Vice Chairman in Abia North, announced Wabara’s suspension, citing alleged anti-party activities. The accusation stemmed from Wabara’s public commendation of Abia State Governor Alex Otti, in which he praised Otti’s performance—particularly the reconstruction of Port Harcourt Road in Aba—and suggested he deserved another term. The Abia PDP leadership viewed this as a violation of party loyalty.

However, the PDP National Working Committee swiftly countered the suspension, declaring it “null and void and of no effect,” stating that it breached the party’s constitution.

The move against Wabara has drawn criticism from several groups, including PDP Frontiers for Change and Progress, which argued that Amah lacked the constitutional authority to suspend the party’s BoT Chairman.

With the court’s ruling now in place, Wabara remains in office while the legal battle continues.
