Tony Aziegbemi, Chairman of the Edo State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Caretaker Committee, has called on party members to remain steadfast following the tribunal’s decision to uphold Governor Monday Okpehbolo’s election victory. Aziegbemi described the ruling as a temporary setback and pledged to pursue all available democratic avenues to ensure the people’s will prevails.

The Edo State Governorship Election Tribunal, led by Justice Wilfred Kpochi, dismissed the PDP’s petition, citing insufficient evidence of over-voting. The tribunal affirmed that Okpehbolo received the highest number of valid votes in the September 2024 election.

Despite acknowledging the tribunal’s judgment, Aziegbemi expressed strong disagreement, reiterating the PDP’s belief that its candidate, Asue Ighodalo, won the election. In a statement, Aziegbemi emphasized the PDP’s respect for the judiciary but firmly stated their conviction that Ighodalo was duly elected by the majority of voters.

Aziegbemi urged party members to overcome this setback and announced the PDP’s intention to appeal the ruling. He called on supporters to remain hopeful, assuring them that the party would explore all democratic means to uphold the will of the Edo State people.
