
The Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday arraigned two women, Folake Adeoti and Modupe Adewuyi, before Justice Yellim Bogoro of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos, for illegally selling naira notes.
Adeoti, an ex-convict, was arrested on March 21, 2025, at Jobi Fele Way, Ikeja, with N3.85 million in new naira notes. She pleaded guilty to the one-count charge of naira mutilation. The prosecution presented her confessional statement and the money recovered as evidence. The court adjourned the matter till May 2 for ruling and ordered her remand at a Correctional Centre.
Similarly, Modupe Adewuyi was arrested the same day at the same location with N1.6 million. She also pleaded guilty to the charge. EFCC operative Usman Adamu told the court that Adewuyi was found with two POS machines and confessed to selling mint naira notes. Her statement and the recovered money were tendered as exhibits.
Justice Bogoro also adjourned her case till May 2, 2025, and ordered her remand.
