Eha-Amufu Residents Debunk Reports of Attacks, Call It Fake News

Enugu State

A recent report circulating on social media claiming that there were attacks in Eha-Amufu, Isi-Ụzọ council area of Enugu State, from Friday to Sunday, has been debunked by residents as fake.

The report alleged that a helicopter flew past the town, followed by series of coordinated attacks, and that the military rushed victims of the attacks to the hospital. However, the report has been rubbished as a false alarm by mischief makers who thrive on fake news to create atmosphere of fear.

According to natives of Ochin, a border village in Umuhu who spoke to newsmen who paid visit to the communities alongside the Council Chairman of Isi-Uzo LGA, Hon. Obiora Obeagu, and a combined team of security personnel, the alleged attack did not occur in Eha-Amufu or anywhere in the council area, but in Nkalaeha, Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, where suspected Fulani herdsmen allegedly killed scores of individuals between Saturday and Sunday.

Leading a team of security joint task-force specially designated to police the council area and rid it of criminal elements, particularly in border communities, on Monday, Mr Obiora assured the people of Eha-Amufu of maximum security of life and property.

While also addressing the people of Umuhu and some other border communities in Eha-Amufu, he thanked the State Governor, Barr. Peter Mbah, for deploying security personnel to the border communities in Eha-Amufu, Ikem-Nkwo and the entire council area, stressing that the efforts had ensured sustained peace and security.

He told the people to remain peaceful and cooperate with the security agents operating in the area with useful information that would enable them to do more.

Speaking to newsmen, a resident of Mgbuji, Chief Josiah Mkpume, commended the governor for ensuring that their people could go their farms and carry out their daily transactions without fear of intimidation by any group.

“The presence of security in these areas are reassuring to us. We can now sleep, wake, do our routine transactions without having to worry about marauders. We will keep praying for the governor for prioritizing security in our communities,” he added.

Recall that the State Government had demonstrated its commitment to protecting the lives and properties of its citizens through reforms and investment in modern technology in the security sector.

The deployment of security personnel to the border communities has been described by security analysts as a proactive measure aimed at preventing immediate and future attacks in the area which used to be a fragile spot in the past.
