The family of the late Paul has accused the police of torturing their son while in custody, leading to his untimely death. The police, however, maintain that Paul died due to hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) and have stated that an autopsy will confirm the cause of death.
According to sources close to the family, Paul had visited the police station on Wednesday evening to secure the release of his friend, Prosper, who had been arrested earlier that morning. Instead of being allowed to post bail for his friend, Paul was also detained.
Prosper later recounted that while in custody, Paul was subjected to severe torture and placed in handcuffs and legcuffs. Paul reportedly collapsed at the police station and was rushed to multiple hospitals by officers. Tragically, he passed away on Saturday morning at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Asaba.
Paul’s family strongly believes that his death was a direct consequence of the alleged police brutality. However, in a recent press statement, the police asserted that Paul’s demise resulted from hypoglycemia and promised that an autopsy would provide further clarity on the cause of death. The police have yet to offer a clear explanation regarding the reason for Paul’s and Prosper’s arrests.
The case is currently under investigation, with growing demands for justice from the family and concerned members of the public. Calls for transparency and accountability continue to intensify as all eyes remain on the outcome of the inquiry.
The family has expressed their deep grief and hopes that the truth will ultimately prevail.
