Former Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has debunked widespread rumours suggesting he has left the All Progressives Congress (APC), reaffirming his loyalty and commitment to the party.

Speculation about Fayemi’s alleged defection gained traction on social media following reports that listed him among key APC stakeholders allegedly planning to dump the party over unresolved internal crises. The rumours intensified after former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, officially joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP) on Monday.

However, in a post shared via his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle, Fayemi dismissed the claims as false, stressing that he remains a dedicated member of the ruling party.

“My attention has been drawn to a story circulating on several online platforms regarding my defection from the All Progressives Congress,” he wrote.

“As I have had cause to state in the past, I am a card-carrying foundation member of the APC, and this position has not changed.”

Fayemi, who has recently advocated for greater internal democracy and inclusivity within the APC, acknowledged existing challenges but expressed hope that the party can still reposition itself.

“I believe it is still not too late for our party to change course and move towards greater inclusion and internal democracy,” he added.

His statement comes amid ongoing conversations about party unity and the direction of the APC ahead of future elections.
