
Provost Federal College of Education (Technical) Umunze, Prof. Theresa Obumneme Okoli is among the exceptional Anambrarians to receive distinguished award at the upcoming prestigious AMTY Award.
Prof Okoli, who is the 4th substantive Provost of Federal College of Education (Technical) Umunze, will be decorated as Education Icon of the Year.
According to the organisers, Prof. Okoli was selected based on her numerous achievements as the Provost of the Institution.
Under her leadership, the Federal College of Education (Technical) Umunze has achieved remarkable successes in academics including being rated first among 21 Colleges of Education in Nigeria by the Presidential SERVICOM Assessment Team in 2019.
Prof. Okoli’s remarkable journey to greatness began with her early education at St Augustine’s Primary School in Ogun State and later Girls Secondary School, Awgbu. She emerged as the best graduating student in the Department of Agric Education at Anambra State College of Education in 1988 and went on to secure a direct entry to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where she obtained her first degree in Agric Education in 1990, and later bagged her Masters degree from the same university.
Throughout her illustrious career, Prof. Okoli has demonstrated exceptional leadership and academic excellence. She joined the Federal College of Education (Technical) Umunze in 1992 as an Assistant Lecturer and rose through the ranks to become a Principal Lecturer in 2007 and later Chief Lecturer in 2011. Her appointment as Provost in 2018 marked a historic milestone, as she became the first staff member to rise to the position since the institution’s inception in 1990.
Prof. Okoli, an erudite scholar, has received numerous awards and Fellowships, and holds the Chieftaincy title of Mmachinyelugo of Orumba.
Her commitment to technical and vocational education has also been recognized, with the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, conferring a distinguished alumni award on her in 2019.
