The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Lokoja, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, has cautioned newly admitted students against involvement in cultism and other forms of social vices, urging them to uphold discipline and academic excellence throughout their stay in the university.
Speaking at the institution’s 13th matriculation ceremony held on Monday at its Adankolo campus, Akinwumi emphasized the university’s zero tolerance for deviant behaviour, academic misconduct, and indiscipline.
“To be awarded a degree by this university, you must be found worthy in learning and in character,” he stated. “Shun cultism, indecent dressing, examination malpractice, sexual misconduct, drug abuse, and any other form of antisocial behaviour that can jeopardize your future.”
He warned that any student who fails to meet the expected standard of conduct and diligence would face expulsion, adding that the university would not compromise on its values.
Akinwumi also congratulated the new students for securing admission into the institution, describing them as the “privileged few” selected from a large pool of applicants.
“This remarkable achievement is worth celebrating, and we are proud to welcome you into the Federal University Lokoja family,” he said.
A total of 7,571 students were matriculated for the 2024/2025 academic session.
