A fire outbreak on Saturday gutted a herbal products storage facility in Oyo town, Oyo State, destroying goods worth several millions of naira.

The General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, Yemi Akinyinka, confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday. He said the fire occurred at Olanlokun Junction, Obabi Street, in the Old Cele area.

According to Akinyinka, the fire was reported at exactly 10:39 a.m., and firemen arrived at the scene within six minutes.

“On getting there, the crew met heaps of local herbs within the premises of a residential building being used to store different types of local herbs, engulfed by fire,” he said.

He added that firefighting operations began immediately, and the team was able to prevent the flames from spreading to the main residential building and other nearby structures.

Although the fire raged for over three hours due to the large quantity of herbs involved, firefighters eventually brought it under control.

Akinyinka noted that while the fire caused significant damage, properties worth millions were saved through the swift intervention of the fire service.
