In what can only be described as a tragic twist to “for better or worse,” the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested 42-year-old Victor Okoh for the gruesome murder of his wife, 38-year-old Victoria Okoh, in Oron, Akwa Ibom State.

According to a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, the horrifying incident occurred in the early hours of Monday. At approximately 5:20 a.m., police officers responded to a distress call from concerned neighbors who were jolted by the chilling cries from the couple’s residence.

Upon arrival, the operatives were met with a grisly scene — the lifeless, mutilated body of Mrs. Okoh was found lying outside the house she shared with her husband. The horror didn’t end there.

Preliminary investigations suggest the fatal attack was fueled by allegations of infidelity. In a fit of rage, Victor allegedly wielded a machete and hacked his wife to death. But instead of making a clean escape or surrendering to the law, the suspect chose a most bizarre hiding spot — the ceiling of his own house.

“Officers tactically secured the building and, after forceful entry, flushed out the suspect from the ceiling,” DSP Timfon John said. “The machete used in committing the crime was recovered, and the scene was documented for investigation.”

The deceased’s body has been deposited at the General Hospital Morgue for autopsy, while the suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.

The state Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, described the incident as “barbaric and inexcusable,” assuring the public that justice will be served without delay.

He also took the opportunity to address the broader issue of domestic violence: “This Command will not tolerate such acts. We urge the public to seek lawful, peaceful means of resolving domestic disputes. Violence is never the answer — especially not with a machete.”

The Akwa Ibom Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to public safety and encouraged residents to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.

As the dust settles on this heartbreaking case, one thing remains clear: when trust dies in a relationship, it doesn’t have to take a life with it.
