Port Harcourt, Rivers State – Governor Siminalayi Fubara has reacted to the recent Supreme Court judgment on the lingering political crisis in Rivers State, stating that while his government disagrees with the ruling, it will abide by it in the spirit of the rule of law.

In a state broadcast on Sunday, March 2, 2025, Governor Fubara acknowledged the judgment, noting that his legal team expects to receive the certified true copy by Friday, March 7, 2025. He assured Rivers people that once the document is received, the government will study its contents and implement the directives accordingly.

In what seems to be a strategic response to the judgment, the governor directed the Heads of Personnel Management (HPM) in the 23 Local Government Areas to take over administration pending fresh elections by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission. He further instructed outgoing local government chairmen to formally hand over by Monday, March 3, 2025.

Despite acknowledging the state’s challenging political climate, Fubara called for calm, urging citizens to go about their daily activities peacefully while his administration works towards stability and governance.

The governor reaffirmed his commitment to upholding constitutional principles and ensuring that Rivers State continues to progress despite the political turbulence.
