Governor Fubara Dismisses Nwaeke’s Allegations as Baseless

Fubara, Dr. George Nwaeke

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has dismissed allegations made by the former Head of Service, Dr. George Nwaeke, as false and misleading.

Dr. Nwaeke, during a press briefing aired on Channels Television on Friday, March 28, 2025, claimed he was aware of Governor Fubara’s purported support for Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, in a supposed 2027 presidential bid. He also alleged that Governor Fubara had engaged in secret meetings with militants to plan attacks on oil pipelines and national assets in Rivers State.

Reacting to these claims, Governor Fubara described them as “laughable and baseless,” emphasizing that no such meetings ever took place. He noted that as Head of Service, Dr. Nwaeke was never privy to high-level political discussions and could not have attended any alleged night meetings.

“The whole world knew when Governor Bala Mohammed, as Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum, visited Rivers State. There was nothing secret about his visits,” Governor Fubara clarified.

He further dismissed the claim of collusion with militants, stating, “At no time did I hold any meeting with militants or criminal groups to destabilize the State. I have consistently championed peace, even in the face of provocation.”

Governor Fubara alleged that Dr. Nwaeke’s statements were politically motivated, possibly influenced by external forces aiming to discredit his administration and disrupt the peace process initiated by President Bola Tinubu.

“I urge well-meaning Nigerians and the good people of Rivers State to disregard these baseless allegations. They are desperate attempts to undermine my administration and the ongoing peace process,” he stated.

The governor reaffirmed his commitment to fostering stability and progress in Rivers State, assuring citizens that his government remains focused on delivering good governance.
