Ogun State authorities have detained Ashafa Afelaja, headmaster of a private school in Eyin Ogbe, Igode near Ogijo, following allegations he sexually assaulted a female pupil. The arrest came after a community member alerted government officials to the incident.
Women Affairs and Social Development Commissioner Adijat Adeleye confirmed the arrest in a Monday statement, noting that their “rescue team intervened in Adamo, Ikorodu, a border community” after receiving reports of the assault. The commissioner stated the suspect is currently in police custody while officials are providing support to the child victim and her mother.
“The victim is receiving necessary medical care and psychological support,” Adeleye assured the public. “The Ministry remains committed to securing justice for all abuse survivors and will continue collaborating with law enforcement for swift action against perpetrators.”
In a separate incident, ministry officials rescued a four-year-old boy who had reportedly been severely beaten by his father in Igboko, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area. The child has been placed under protective custody and is receiving comprehensive medical treatment and emotional support.
“The alleged perpetrator is in police custody with legal proceedings underway,” Adeleye said regarding the second case. “The child is currently stable and responding well to treatment, with additional tests being conducted to ensure complete recovery.”
The commissioner called on the public to support government efforts to eliminate gender-based violence, child abuse, and other harmful acts that impede women’s and children’s development across the state.
