
Nigerian actor and content creator Yemi Elesho has shared insights into his long-standing friendship with Grammy-winning artist Asake, revealing details of their early days together at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife.
In a recent interview, Elesho recounted their deep-rooted relationship, which began during their undergraduate years.
According to him, Asake frequently participated in his skits and movies on campus, a collaboration that came with a rather modest performance fee.
“I used to give Asake a ₦700 plate of rice and a bottle of Coca-Cola as performance fees for him to feature in movies during our undergraduate days at OAU,” Elesho recalled, emphasizing the humble beginnings of their creative partnership.
He further described Asake as a “day-one” friend and highlighted their shared experiences, including playing in celebrity football matches during their university days.
He also mentioned possessing pictures and videos from their time together, reinforcing the depth of their bond before Asake rose to international stardom.
“He is my day-one, my very good friend. I have pictures and videos of our time together at OAU. We used to play celebrity football matches together back in the day.”
