A petition alleging that Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, is involved in a N125 billion fraud linked to the Ikeja Police Cantonment concession has surfaced, calling for President Bola Tinubu’s intervention.
The petition, filed by legal practitioner I.G. Ogugua on behalf of Arc. James Onyemenam, accuses the IGP of forgery and obstruction of justice in a case involving Woods Resources Limited. The dispute, which dates back to 2006, centers on an alleged financial exploitation scheme where the suspects, Victor Ukutt and Whoba Ogo, reportedly connived with Fidelity Bank PLC to siphon N36 billion.
Following extensive investigations by the police, the suspects were set to face prosecution, but Egbetokun allegedly halted the process, transferring the case to the FCID and withholding the case file from the Attorney General’s office. The petitioner asserts that this move aims to shield the accused from legal consequences.
With the matter escalating, the petition now urges the presidency to intervene, ensuring justice prevails in the high-profile financial scandal.
