A human rights organisation, the International Human Rights Observatory (IHRO) Africa has applauded Anambra Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs Ify Obinabo, for giving women and vulnerable groups a sense of belonging in Anambra.

Amb. Chinelo Ogbata-Ejorh, Special Envoy on Africa Women’s Care and Children Education Fund of IHRO Africa Nigeria Chaper made the commendation on Wednesday in Enugu while speaking on Obinabo’s resilience in bringing issues of children and women to the front burner.

Ogbata-Ejorh noted that Obinabo had brought passion and energy to the fight to reduce child trafficking, Gender Based Violence (GBV) and other inhuman treatment of women who are subjected to undue negative and retrogressive cultural practices.

According to her, IHRO has been closely monitoring Obinabo’s exemplary work and unwavering dedication to the welfare of women and children in the society.

“In light of recent online fake and unfounded allegations against her, we urge the public to refrain from engaging in character assassination and to instead focus on constructive dialogue and encouragement.

“Negative campaigns that seek to destroy an individual’s image not only harm the person targeted but also undermine the progress and initiatives aimed at uplifting the community and society.

“After careful consideration and a thorough review of the allegations presented, it is clear that Hon. Ify Obinabo has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment to her role as defender of rights of children, girls and women.

“Her efforts have made her a leading figure in women’s affairs across the country, setting a standard other commissioners in-charge of children and women affairs aspire to achieve,” the special envoy said.

Ogbata-Ejorh noted that IHRO believed that Obinabo’s work remained vital for the advancement of women’s rights and social welfare in Nigeria, adding that “she deserves our support and respect rather than unfounded criticisms or outright lies against her.”

The special envoy called on Nigerians, stakeholders and the media to engage in positive discourse and to celebrate the achievements of leaders who work tirelessly for the betterment of the society.

“Let us stand together in promoting an environment of encouragement and support for all those who contribute to the welfare of our communities,” she added.
