The House of Representatives has endorsed President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, alongside the suspension of Governor Sim Fubara, his deputy, and all elected members of the state assembly for six months.
The lawmakers gave their approval through a voice vote during Thursday’s plenary session.
Presiding over the session, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas invited members to deliberate on the general principles of the President’s report before reaching a decision.
In his remarks, Deputy House Spokesman Philip Agbese from Benue proposed the creation of a national mediation committee to resolve the crisis between Governor Fubara and the state assembly, a recommendation that was subsequently adopted by the House.
