Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, has allocated five Special Assistant slots to members of the state chapter of the Deaf and Dumb Association in a move aimed at promoting inclusivity in governance.
The governor made the announcement on Sunday during an Iftar (breaking of fast) gathering with the association’s executives and selected members at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi.
According to Idris, the decision underscores his administration’s commitment to ensuring that every resident of Kebbi State feels a sense of belonging.
“This is a government of the people, for the people, and by the people. I appreciate your support during my campaign and even now, and I will continue to acknowledge your contributions,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the association, its leader, Issa Ambursa, expressed gratitude for the gesture while noting that members had previously been left out of appointments designated for persons with disabilities.
Ambursa reminded the governor of the association’s role in his 2023 election victory and pledged their continued loyalty to his administration. He further assured Idris of their unwavering support in the 2027 elections.
The governor’s move has been widely praised as a step toward greater inclusivity in Kebbi State’s governance.
