Kebbi State Appeals for Military Support to Combat Terrorism

In the aftermath of a violent attack by the Lakurawa terrorist group that resulted in at least 13 deaths in Birnin Dede, Arewa Local Government Area of Kebbi State, the state government has requested the immediate deployment of military troops. A spokesperson for Governor Nasir Idris confirmed that the governor held an urgent security meeting with top state security officials to address the escalating insecurity in the region.

“The state government is deeply concerned for the safety of our citizens,” the spokesperson stated. “Governor Idris has instructed security agencies to take all necessary steps to restore peace in Arewa Local Government. The requested troop deployment is a key part of our strategy to combat insecurity and assure residents of our commitment to their protection.”
Residents of Arewa Local Government have expressed significant fear and anxiety following the attack. One resident, speaking anonymously, described the community as living in a state of terror. “Since the attack, we are living in fear. Many are afraid to leave their homes, and some have fled to neighboring areas for safety,” the resident said. They urged the government to expedite the deployment of security forces to prevent further attacks.

In response to the incident, the Kebbi State Police Command has deployed a tactical team to the affected area. A police spokesperson stated that the Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani, visited the area and engaged with deployed security personnel, including police, army, civil defense, and local vigilantes.
“The Commissioner strongly condemned the attack and has reinforced security measures by deploying additional tactical teams with orders to neutralize the suspected bandits,” the spokesperson said. The police also announced they are pursuing the attackers and called on the public to report any suspicious activity.
Separately, in Plateau State, a military task force successfully rescued seven kidnapped victims during a raid on a kidnappers’ hideout in the Riyom Local Government Area.
