Kebbi State Government Allocates N54 Million for Mass Wedding of 300 Couples

Mass Wedding

The Kebbi State Government has begun preparations for a mass wedding involving 300 couples, scheduled for February 27.

Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Alhaji Suleiman Argungu, announced the initiative in Birnin Kebbi on Sunday, stating that the event is being organized in partnership with the Nafisa Nasir Charity Development Foundation (NANAS).

As part of the preparations, various committees have been established to oversee essential medical screenings, including pregnancy tests, genotype compatibility tests, and HIV/AIDS tests, in line with legal marriage requirements in the state.

Argungu emphasized that the mass wedding fulfills a pledge made by Governor Nasir Idris during the last such event, reaffirming the government’s commitment to periodically supporting underprivileged individuals in getting married.

The state government will contribute N180,000 in dowry for each bride across the 21 Local Government Areas, totaling N54 million for all 300 beneficiaries.

“In addition to the dowry, the couples will receive essential household items such as furniture and food supplies to help them establish a stable marital life,” Argungu added.
