The new Speaker of the Lagos State Assembly,Mojisola Meranda has officially moved into the office of the Speaker. She had been operating from the Office of the Deputy Speaker since 13th January, 2025 when she was elected to take over from the former Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa.
Mrs Meranda, who is the first female Speaker of the House, was accompanied by the principal members and other lawmakers amidst tight security.
Security has also been beefed up at the Assembly following last Saturday’s news conference by the former speaker, Mudashiru Obasa that his removal did not follow due process and that he would resume on Monday as speaker.
The former speaker of the House, Mudashiru Obasa was removed as Lagos speaker on Monday, January 13, 2025, when more than two-thirds of the 40-member house voted him out for gross misconduct and abuse of office.
