Madrid, Barça, and Atlético Have No Reason to Complain About Referees – Lamine Yamal

Lamine Yamal

Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal has weighed in on the ongoing referee debates in Spanish football, insisting that match officials are doing their best despite constant criticism.

Speaking to Mundo Deportivo, the 16-year-old winger highlighted the difficult nature of refereeing, emphasizing that no matter what decisions are made, someone will always feel wronged.

“The referees try to do the best they can! It’s a very difficult job because someone will always complain,” Yamal stated.

Addressing recent controversies surrounding Real Madrid, he acknowledged that refereeing decisions can fluctuate.

“In the Copa del Rey… Real Madrid was first favored by the referees, and then against Osasuna, they went against them. Every day is like this.”

However, Yamal made it clear that elite clubs like Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Atlético Madrid have little room to complain about refereeing decisions, considering the challenges faced by smaller teams.

“Teams like Madrid, Barça, and Atleti can’t complain. The referees try to do the best they can. Games like Alavés and Leganés are not talked about as much, and maybe there are more controversial actions there.”

When asked about Real Madrid’s recent statement on refereeing decisions, Yamal revealed that the issue was not a topic of discussion within the Barcelona dressing room, with the squad remaining focused on their objectives.

“Real Madrid’s letter about referees was not discussed in our dressing room… we are just focused on winning and continuing in the best form possible.”
