Manchester United have entered advanced negotiations with Napoli over the potential summer transfer of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, with the Italian club reportedly prepared to offer a discount on his release clause to avoid strengthening domestic rivals.
According to Italian newspaper Il Mattino, Napoli director Giovanni Manna has travelled to London for talks with United officials regarding the sale of the 26-year-old Super Eagles forward. Napoli are said to be willing to negotiate a fee below the €75 million (£64 million) release clause for Premier League clubs, particularly Manchester United, in a strategic move to shut out Serie A contenders like Juventus.
Osimhen, currently enjoying a prolific loan spell at Turkish giants Galatasaray with 28 goals in 32 appearances, is expected to depart Napoli permanently this summer. His previous attempts to secure moves to Chelsea and clubs in Saudi Arabia fell through last year.
Sources close to the negotiations suggest United have made Osimhen their top attacking target ahead of the 2025/26 season. Transfer insider Rudy Galetti reports that the striker is open to joining the Red Devils, despite their recent struggles and the possibility of missing out on European football next season.
Napoli’s reluctance to sell to Juventus stems from ongoing tensions between the Naples-based club and Juventus sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli. “Victor would have no problem wearing the black and white shirt; the problem is the frostiness between Giuntoli and the blue club,” Il Mattino reported.
Meanwhile, Chelsea also held discussions with Manna during his visit to London but are reportedly prioritising a move for Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap, who manager Enzo Maresca believes is a better tactical fit. Arsenal are also believed to have submitted a bid, while Liverpool, Barcelona, and Paris Saint-Germain are monitoring developments closely.
Manchester United’s existing relationship with Napoli — established during last summer’s transfer dealings involving Scott McTominay — could facilitate a smoother path for the Osimhen deal.
Osimhen remains focused on leading Galatasaray to the Super Lig title and Turkish Cup triumph before making a decision on his future.
