Thousands of Americans staged protests across all 50 states on Saturday in opposition to President Donald Trump’s latest government reforms, spearheaded by his adviser, billionaire Elon Musk.
Over 1,200 “Hands Off” rallies were held, with the largest turnout at the National Mall in Washington, D.C., where over 20,000 people gathered. Demonstrators voiced anger over sweeping executive actions and massive job cuts linked to Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which has already slashed over 200,000 federal positions and reduced key benefits in the IRS and Social Security.
“This is one of the biggest demonstrations since Trump’s second term began,” said Al Jazeera’s Mike Hanna.
In Chicago, mostly union workers led the protests, expressing fears over job security. “Their message to Trump and Musk is clear: hands off,” reported John Hendren from the scene.
Despite no immediate policy reversals expected, organizers say the protests mark a strong stance against the administration’s growing authority.
