Missing firearms: Police write Senate, request more time for investigation

Police, Senate

Authorities of the Nigeria Police Force has requested the Senate to give it more time to conduct investigation on the missing 3,907 Firearms.

Recall that this revelation about the Firearms came to the fore last week Tuesday during the meeting of the Senate Committee on Public Accounts with the Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun.

Presenting the letter written in respect of the Missing firearms by the Inspector General of Police to Senators during the Thursday’s Plenary, the Senate President, Godswilll Akpabio, said the Police has solicited the leave of the Senate to allow him time to conduct proper investigation on the matter.

Akelicious reports that Egbetokun in the letter conveyed his shock and dismay at the turn of the event on the issue stating that, the public vilification of the police Force during the session was deeply troubling particularly as the allegations presented were entirely rooted in virtual inaccuracies.

Egbetokun added that the unfortunate incident has had far reaching consequences, perpetrating a very false narrative about government institutions and the forces leadership both domestically and internationally.

The Police Authorities therefore enjoined the Senate Committee to always conduct such investigation behind camera will prevent spread of misinformation and protect National security interest.

The Senate President therefore declared that there will be no further discussion on that matter, as it was a clear case of misinformation.

He assured that authorities of the Nigeria Police Force alongside the Senate would conduct further investigation on the matter in due Course.
