Northern Elders Forum Decries ‘Barbaric’ Killing of Hunters in Edo, Issues 14-Day Ultimatum

The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has expressed deep shock and sadness on what it called the barbaric, extra-judicial killing of innocent Northern hunters returning home to celebrate the end of Ramadan and Eid Kabir in Uromi, Edo State. It posited that the heinous act is unacceptable, and condemned the ugly incident on strong term.

The forum in a statement signed by its Spokesperson, Professor Abubakar Jika Jiddere, stated that the North has endured similar reckless attacks in the past and will no longer tolerate them.

NEF therefore demanded immediate action from Edo State and the Federal Government, including, Swift recovery of the victims’ bodies and their dignified burial according to their faiths.

It also called for the arrest and public prosecution of all those responsible, ensuring full transparency and accountability, Compensation for the victims’ families in line with their religious standards as well as unreserved apology from the Edo State Government and a commitment to preventing such incidents in the future.

The Northern Elders Forum has also issued a 14-day deadline for these demands to be met adding that, Failure to act will compel the North to take necessary measures to seek justice.

It also called on the Federal Government to ensure justice for the victims to maintain peace and national unity.

NEF urged the families of the victims and the Northern community to remain calm assuring that the matter will be pursue responsibly with the relevant authorities.
